Join Christiansburg Institute, Inc. for Schools That Built Us: Desegregation and the Legacy of Rural Black Education, a full-day professional development experience designed for educators interested in exploring the history of rural Black education through primary sources, local history, and place-based learning.

Participants will engage with digitized primary sources from the Library of Congress and locally curated materials from the Christiansburg Institute Digital Archive, Christiansburg Institute Museum & Archives, and the African American Legacy Tour. By examining national and local collections together, educators will explore how primary sources can deepen historical inquiry, connect local stories to broader historical narratives, and provide classroom-ready resources for teaching African American history.

Participants will receive:

• 6 hours of professional development credit

• A complimentary catered lunch

• Opportunities to connect and collaborate with Christiansburg Institute, Inc.

• The opportunity to become a Christiansburg Institute Educator Affiliate

• 1:00 pm- Community Lunch, sponsored by Bricks 1819

• 2:30 pm- Christiansburg Institute Inc. Tour
