School Spirit

Christiansburg Institute emphasized student life in an effort to create a dynamic and pleasant educational atmosphere for the student body, promote civic engagement, and strengthen community. Students took part in literary societies, science clubs, the home economics club and the school band.

Students with qualifying grades also participated in interscholastic sports such as baseball, basketball and football. Under a racially segregated South, teams and their families traveled across Southwestern Virginia to compete with other African American schools.
